Vidéo-Surviolence

Scriptwriter Julien Daillère
Director Julien Daillère and Elie Girard
Short movie (2 min 20 sec, DV, couleurs)
Auto-production – 09/2005

A passer-by evolves in front of surveillance cameras with a Chaplinesque presence. In the background, like an old song listened to the gramophone, an enthusiastic singer announces the glorious era of ubiquitous cameras.
By this double anachronism, in the image and the sound, “Video-Suviolence” refers to the illusory fantasy of a magic solution brought by video-surveillance. Something goes wrong. The futuristic dream of a technology guaranteeing security sounds weird and does not fit with the reality of here and now. Very quickly, video-surveillance rhymes with violence. The camera has no conscience. It films without seeing. Its violence is blind.
